Mixed emotions here. I recently moved to the area and was in need of a new mechanic. They were able to get my car in quickly and had it done same day, the people were friendly and professional, but the price seemed steep. I understand they dont have control when prices go up for parts, but it "feels" like gouging when you see the part online retail for half of what they charged you. Maybe it was a different quality part, maybe they were marking them up. Next time I will call my old mechanic for a quote first. If I have to drive over an hour for a few hundred dollars of savings, so be it.
Travis, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Yes, we do mark our parts up. Thats been a common practice in the industry for decades. However, the internet has now created a situation where my suppliers and many other suppliers are engaged in a price war in local retail stores and on line. Repair shops always received wholesale pricing based on the volume of business they gave local parts stores. Those discounts are no longer exclusive, and parts suppliers have been known to sell consumers parts cheaper than what I can buy them for. It can lead to this exact situation, and I wish I had a better answer. I have been in business for over 21 years and the margins on the parts I sell have been the same for the last 15 years. This topic has lead to discussions amongst repair shop owners to sell the parts at our cost, but that is obviously going to affect the labor rate. I do offer as many coupons and savings to my repeat customers as I can, such as our Car Care Club membership. We also sell tires at our cost. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you would like to talk more about it. Jim Shukys
