Incorrect diagnosis that would have charged me 400$ to fix some rear brake, bleed the lines, and remove some rust. This wasn't even this issue, it was a master cylinder failure. This incorrect diagnosis could have led to an accident, if not caught by another garage.
As usual, there are two sides to every story. Krista brought her car to us after she attempted to replace her own front brakes. She complained of a soft brake pedal. Upon inspection of the front and rear brakes, we determined the front brake pad perches were not properly descaled before the pads were installed, and the pads were literally frozen in place. This is one of the most common causes of a spongy pedal, so we recommended fixing the issue. She declined the repair, and we charged her $58.48 for our time. I have said it before, I will say it again...this is why most repair shops do not want to help people who work on their own cars. It always leads to aggravation, one way or the other. It sounds like Krista has found a place thats willing to accommodate her, and I think that's fantastic.
